The latest trends in kitchen remodeling include wood, stone and splashes of color

by | January 23, 2020

Interior designers and color experts are predicting the use of wood, natural stone and splashes of color in kitchen designs this year. As a home remodeler and builder, Allan Homes always advises our homeowners to follow their hearts and not the latest trends when remodeling their kitchen. Still, it’s fun to keep an eye on the latest design forecasts for the year.

The color palette for 2020 will “focus on nature, serenity and comfort,” according to the Pantone Color Institute, responsible for selecting the trending colors for this year. A wide range of greens, along with ocean blues, will be popular. According to Better Homes & Gardens magazine, “blue is the new neutral.”

All this doesn’t mean that neutral tones like beiges and grays should not be chosen for your remodeling project, especially if you are remodeling in order to get a higher price when you sell. An open, neutral palette that allows buyers to imagine their favorite belongings in your home is still the best approach to getting top dollar when you sell.

When selecting colors, we advise our homeowners to look ahead five years instead of automatically embracing the latest trend.

If you’re wondering what the major paint manufacturers are selecting as their 2020 paint colors of the year, here they are:

  • Benjamin – Moore: First Light
  • Kelly-Moore: Sun God
  • Behr: Back to Nature
  • Dunn-Edwards: Minty Fresh
  • Pratt & Lambert: Songbird
  • Glidden: Whirlwind
  • PPG Paints: Chinese Porcelain
  • Sherwin-Williams: Naval
