Traditional styles still top homeowner tastes while Mid-Century Modern popularity increases by 16 percent

by | January 30, 2020

According to research from HGTV, 38 percent of all American homeowners are planning to update their living spaces in 2020. Kitchens and bathroom remodels remain at the top of the priority list with kitchens still in the number one position.

Traditional styling is still king of the hill for most homeowners, HDTV research shows, a trend noticed locally here in Howard County by remodeler and custom home builder Allan Homes. The big surprise, however, is the emergence of mid-century modern designs in the number 2 position, which increased in popularity by 16 percent over 2018.

Here are the top spaces homeowners are expected to renovate in 2020:

  1. Kitchen: 55%
  2. Bathroom: 46%
  3. Bedroom: 41%
  4. Living-Family Room: 24%

Here are the top styles favored by homeowners:

  1. Traditional: 34%
  2. Mid-Century Modern: 27%
  3. Farmhouse: 24%
  4. Bohemian: 16%
  5. Rustic: 16%
